The Anglers Rest Wedding Photography | Steph & Jon
Some weddings can have choreographed schedules.
Others are about getting your favourite people together, having a brilliant day and doing things your own way. Steph and Jon’s summer wedding at The Anglers Rest in Dublin was very much the latter.
On a scorching hot summer’s day, with family and friends travelling over from Canada and elsewhere to celebrate with them, these two put together a wedding that was stylish, intimate and completely their own. From the unusual timeline to the laid-back atmosphere, arcade machines and a seriously cool evening soundtrack, it was one of those weddings that reminds you how good things can be when couples simply do what feels right for them.
And as for the music? Definitely no Ed Sheeran!
A Different Kind of Wedding Timeline
One of the things we loved about Steph and Jon’s plans was that they weren’t interested in disappearing for an hour of photographs while their guests waited around for the meal.Instead, we met up with them and their family and bridal party at the Irish National War Memorial Gardens in Kilmainham before the ceremony. The gardens held special meaning for the couple, which made it a lovely place to spend time together and capture their portraits.
With the summer sunshine blazing down, we photographed Steph and Jon, their bridal party and their families before heading to The Anglers Rest. It meant everyone could be part of the photographs without having to squeeze everything into the time between the ceremony and reception.
More importantly, once the photographs were finished, that part of the day was done. No rushing away from their guests later, no watching the clock and no missing out on the craic.
It was a thoughtful way to organise the day, and one that suited the couple perfectly.

A Stylish Bride, a Laid-Back Groom and a Scorching Dublin Summer
Steph, who had travelled from Canada for the wedding, and Jon were brilliant craic from the get-go. They were relaxed, up for a laugh and completely comfortable being themselves in front of the camera.
There was no need to manufacture moments or turn the day into a series of posed photographs. We could simply document what was happening, give them a little direction when needed and let the rest unfold naturally.
With family and friends making the journey to Dublin to celebrate with them, the day had that lovely feeling of people coming together for something genuinely important. It was intimate without feeling formal, stylish without being over the top, and full of personality.
That’s always the sweet spot for us: couples who want beautiful photographs but don’t want their wedding day to revolve around having them taken.

One of the things I love about photographing weddings at The Anglers Rest
is that everything takes place under one roof, from the ceremony to the drinks reception and the meal. There’s no travelling between locations, so everyone can relax and enjoy the day together.
The ceremony room itself has a lovely charm, with its low ceiling and open fireplace creating a really intimate atmosphere. With Emma Sides leading the ceremony and Luke Russell playing the piano, it was a beautiful setting for Steph and Jon to say their “I do’s” before moving straight into the celebrations.
Relaxed, Natural Wedding Photography in Dublin
At AK Wedding Photography & Videography, we believe your wedding photographs should tell the story of your day as it really happened. We love capturing the big moments, but we’re just as interested in the conversations, reactions, laughter and small interactions happening around them.
Steph and Jon’s wedding was a great example of how a little thought about the timeline can help you get the photographs you want without sacrificing time with your guests.
Getting the portraits done at the War Memorial Gardens beforehand made sense for them because the location was meaningful, the light was beautiful and it allowed the rest of the day to unfold without interruption.
There isn’t one right way to organise a wedding. Whether you’re planning a city-centre ceremony, an intimate celebration at The Anglers Rest or a full-day wedding elsewhere in Dublin, we’ll work with you to create a photography plan that fits your priorities.
Our approach is relaxed, natural and unobtrusive. We’ll help when you need it, capture the moments as they happen and make sure you have a collection of photographs that brings the day back to life.
